The Sea Rad MM-50 marine radio uses a carbon mic and limits modulation to 80% in order to avoid distortion, but it still puts out a good 35-40 watt AM signal with lots of "punch".
This clip was recorded by Brad NB9M at his QTH near Morgantown, IN using a Perseus SDR and digital audio recorder. The path was 328 miles and the frequency was 3880 Khz. Net control heard at the start is W8TOW who was running full legal AM power from near Lansing MI, 270 miles from the receiver.
